Hannah Carr

Hi, I'm Hannah from Tulsa, OK. I plan on majoring in Fibers, but I'm also interested in creative writing. I enjoy thinking and constantly trying to challenge my current perspective and beliefs, but have no formal experience with philosophy. I look forward to reading philosophical texts and having a more solid understanding of things. My goal for this class is to absorb as much information as possible, while still questioning everything. I'm also excited to discuss and hear other people's opinions!

Title

Chevy Harness. From Wichita Kansas. Haven't decided on a major yet. I just love to draw and make art. Its my life. I feel i need to keep pushing myself as much as possible. As far as this class goes i just want to pass. Art over philosophy any day. But who knows it might end up being a good class for me.
Hey, I'm Ryan. I was born in St. Louis and lived there for the first eight years of my life. My family moved from the city and across Missouri to a little town called Holden, and moved again five years later to Grain Valley which is where I graduated high school. Although art has always been apart of who I am and how i express myself, it has not always been my chosen career path. Before deciding on art i wanted most to be a marine biologist. I have never taken a philosophy class or anything like it really, but i look forward to being in a setting where the exchange of thought and idea is the direction of class and study.

Brantly

This was a long and confusing process for me I have never used a blog before. Anyway, I'm brantly I'm from Oklahoma city Oklahoma. I'm going to major in illustration next fall. I have never taken a philosophy class but I believe it will help me improve my perception, creative process, and my work.

Quinn

Hey, I'm Quinn Mahler. I was born and have lived my entire 19 years of life in the Midwest. I have spent the last 10 years living in South Dakota. (and no, not the cool part with Mount Rushmore, it's the boring part...with cows and corn fields) The most interesting thing I can say for my hometown is that within a 20 minute drive, I can be in either Iowa or Nebraska or back to South Dakota. True to my Midwestern roots, when I'm not taking photos or taking part in some other creative endeavor I can usually be found horseback, or maybe hunting or fishing, anything outdoors. I whole-heartedly plan on being a Graphic Design major next fall.
I think the most important thing I can learn from this class is about myself. I enjoy challenging myself and taking on different perspectives on thoughts and ideas. I have never taken a philosophy class so I'm looking forward to a completely new experience.

greetings

hello, my name is eben, and i am from Chicago. it's a rather smelly place, but i like it anyway. i'm having some serious trouble deciding between illustration and fibers for a major. both are extremely interesting, though i've done much more in the world of illustration than the other... i've got a love/hate relationship with philosophy. it's absolutely beautiful in its fatness, but it's frustrating because as mush as you want to tell someone with a contradicting philosophy that they're wrong, you can't because they're not really wrong. overwhelming, it is. though much fun to ponder in a free moment. i like comics and tunes. 'lectric bass is fun too when i've got a minute.

Alex Pintus

Hello! My name is Alex Pintus. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I am of Italian, Irish, and Peruvian decent. Honestly, I am not sure what I would like to major in just yet. During high school I was mostly exposed to painting and drawing, but while I have been here at KCAI I have been diving into the 3D world. Philosophy hasn't been something I have taken the time to study, but I imagine that I could enjoy doing so. Two people that I have been a little exposed to are St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Augustine. When I have time I thourghly enjoy examining Aquinas's 5 proofs of God's existence. In my spare time I love to read books on Catholic Apologetics, Theological writings. A few books I plan on reading this year are "The Four Loves" by C.S Lewis, "The Four Last Things: Death, Judgement, Hell, Heaven" by Fr. Martin von Cochem, and "A Letter to The Artist" by Pope John Paul II.
Hi, my name is Keller Glynn Gordon. I was born in Portland, Oregon March 17th 1992, I've been living in Georgia for the past eight years. I plan on majoring in painting next year. I have always had an interest in philosophy and people who value ideas and excersizes their mind daily. I also like to see the thoughts written down, but have never seriously persued any philosophy books so having them given to me will sort of force a door open that I have always wanted open. Hearing and reading other people's ideas will help me see how others really think, which is also very exciting to me.

Emily Kenyon

Hi, my name's Emily and I'm from South Florida. This is my first time living where it snows so right now my favorite thing to do is starting snowball fights. I really love printmaking and sculpture but I'm probably going to major in Fibers next year. My experience with philosophy in the past has pretty much just been talking with my friends or family about religion, life, and dreams, so I am really excited to discuss these things in a more formal context. I'm also looking forward to reading philosophical texts and developing more conceptual thought.

Erin K

Hi, I'm Erin Kacerovskis from St. Louis. I'm interested in Illustration and also Creative Writing. As far as philosophy goes, I've never taken any classes before so I don't know what to expect, but I enjoy looking at things from different perspectives. In this class I hope to develop the way I think and my own perception of the world as well as study the ideas of classic philosophers in order to discover new ways of looking at the world.
Hi my name is Vanessa Carrillo. I'm from Miami, Florida. I am most likely going to major in Painting. I have never had a philosophy class before so I'm open to anything new and interesting.
I'm Kimberly Davidson, I'm from Norwalk, Iowa and going into Fibers. I don't know what to expect from this course but I'm sure it has to do with western philosophy. I'm actually pretty excited to learn about all this new stuff and I think I'll get a lot out of it. :)

Lim

Hello, I'm Lim. I was raised in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to America with my mom and brother after my parents divorced. (It was about five years ago, I guess.) I plan on majoring in either painting or film making. I'm still not quite sure where this class will take me, but I believe this is an opportunity to extend my interests in philosophy. There are many things I expect to learn from this class, but I especially want to learn how to express my ideas in an effective way.

Im Michael. Sculpture is my prime interest for a major at this point. Next year i plan to take philosophy classes. I think this class will help me distinguish the direction of my future.

Akim

Name's Akim, from Saint Louis and I plan on majoring in animation if it doesn't kill me like I've been told by many others. I find philosophy to be interesting in the way it makes you think about about the world in a different manner. So I would expect to learn who the people actually are behind famous quotes you hear, why they think that way and what sort of impact those ideals have had.

Hello. My name is Brittany Ficken. I am from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I plan on doing a double major in art history and either printmaking, painting, fiber, or photo. I have never taken a philosophy course but I am very interested in the subject.

I am hoping that learning the beliefs of the Western philosophers that we will study will allow me to think about things from another perspective. I am hoping that learning about these perspectives will allow me to better understand why people believe the things they do in the present. Also, discussing aesthetics in a classroom setting will be interesting.

Hello, I'm Christian. I'm very excited to see where this class will lead me. I've always been interested in philosophical thinking or any subject that induces deep and critical thinking. I am also very influence by religion and consider myself to be a very spiritual person, thus I can not wait to dive into whatever Western Thought has to offer.
Hi my name is Ross Redmon

Im from South Carolina, i plan on majoring in ceramics. I don't really know what im expecting to learn in this class, im not sure what all falls into the category of western thought. I would assume that i can plan on learning many things since im new to the field of philosophy. I would say that i will learn some about western ideals, the background of major philosophical players of the time, as well as the way that these thought patterns apply to art and the rest of the world.

Shaun Welsh

Hello, I am Shaun Welsh. I am from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I like to go hiking and camping. I plan on majoring in Sculpture or Photography. I am an atheist, and am very interested in discussions about religion and philosophy. That is basically what my friends and I talk about all the time. I have never had a class like Western Thought, so I am excited to see how the philosophers before the 20th century viewed themselves and the world around them.
